Little Bee, by Chris Cleave

This novel intertwines the lives of Sarah, a well-to-do London magazine editor and Little Bee, a teenage Nigerian refugee. It cuts close to our own lives as the moral dilemmas which result from an off-the-radar oil war bring these two women together with tragic results. I found this story unsettling as it could very well be completely true. How much is our oil dependent life style causing death and destruction in places like rural Nigeria? What do we owe to the folks who come to our first world countries looking for safety and asylum?
